It is known as one of the most charming towns in all of Greenland with a pleasant town centre and a small square with Greenland’s oldest fountain.Qaqortoq, formerly known as Julianehåb in honour of Queen Juliana Maria of Denmark, was officially founded by Anders Olsen, a merchant from Norway in 1755 however it has been populated continuously for many years dating back to the Saqqaq people with tools and artefacts discovered that were over 4300 years old.
