Day 2 - Budapest Your morning begins with a panoramic tour of the "Pest" side of the city. Journey along Andrassy Avenue and see the 19th and 20th century mansions, National Opera House, Parliament Building and Chain Bridge. Stop in Heroes' Square to learn more about Hungarian history, then cross the Danube to Buda's Castle District. Walk up the hill to Fishermen's Bastion and Matthias Church; enjoy brilliant views. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure in Hungary's fascinating capital and shop the Christmas markets or take a break over Viennese coffee and pastries. Return aboard for dinner and an evening departure. Day 3 - Bratislava Arrive in Bratislave this afternoon and embark on a tour of Slovakia's charming capital - the only national capital that borders two other countries, Austria and Hungary - with a long and fascinating history. See attractions like the medieval Town Hall complex and fortifications at Michael's Tower, baroque Jesuit Church and Gothic St. Martin's Cathedral, and pass by several Habsburg-era baroque palaces. Shop for treats and handcrafted items at the Christmas market located in the main Old Town square before returning to your ship. This evening you can relax or take a walk before a late departure. Day 4 - Vienna Arrive in Vienna during breakfast for your half-day city tour. See some of the city's gracious architecture, then ride along the beautiful Ringstrasse with sights including the Opera House, Stadtpark and Hofburg Theatre. You then see St Stephan's Cathedral. After lunch aboard, the afternoon is yours to further explore this city on your own. Shop at one of Vienna's Christmas markets or take an optional excursion to Schonbrunn Palace, home of Maria Theresa and summer residence of the Habsburgs. Day 5 - Vienna Today, enjoy a day at leisure in Vienna. After a breakfast, you may want to take a leisurely ride to the famous Vienna Woods, a tree-lined area of the lower Alpine slopes that inspired Johann Strauss to write his cheerful, lilting masterpiece, "Tales from the Vienna Woods". Lunch is served aboard. This afternoon you can see some of the sights of Vienna decked out for the holidays. Enjoy dinner aboard and a late evening departure. (B, L, D)
Day 6 - Durnstein & Melk Sail into Durnstein this morning and disembark for some free time in this charming town, which looks like the setting for a fairy tale. Return aboard for lunch and magnificent scenic cruising through the Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arrive at Melk midafternoon and join a guided tour through the ornate interior of a baroque gem of architecture - the Benedictine abbey at Melk. See its elaborate frescoes and admire the library's extensive collection of medieval manuscripts; enjoy the garden courtyard and the terrace views. Return to your ship for dinner. (B, L, D)
Day 7 - Linz & Salzburg Today's activity is an excursion to the legendary Austrian city of Salzburg, known as the location for the film, The Sound of Music. Ride through the scenic Austrian countryside to Salzburg's Old Town area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and take a walking tour featuring the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Hohensalzburg Fortress just above the city centre. Take free time to explore Salzburg's narrow cobbled streets and colourful buildings and get lunch in one of the charming cafes; return aboard for dinner and a late evening departure. (B, D)
Day 8 - Passau Enjoy a glorious morning arrival in Passau, at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube Rivers. Your guided walk along the town's narrow streets takes you through the Old Town and past traditional patrician houses. You see the Oberhaus Fortress and visit the impressive baroque St Stephan's Cathedral with its ornate interior and 17,000 pipe organ, considered Europe's largest church organ. Eat lunch aboard, but return to the city for further exploration on your own before an early evening departure and cruise through the night. (B, L, D)
Day 9 - Regensburg Celebrate Christmas morning on board, sailing through the winter scenery and docking just after lunch. Meet your guide dockside for a walking tour through the scenic town of Regensburg, considered one of Europe's best preserved medieval cities. See one of the largest groupings of 13th and 14th century church spires, towers and patrician houses north of the Alps. You also encounter the 12th century Old Stone Bridge, St Peter's Cathedral and a number of idyllic courtyards. This afternoon brings leisurely scenic cruising along the Danube River; dinner is served aboard. (B, L, D)
Day 10 - Main-Danube Canal & Nuremberg This morning, you sail through a number of locks that comprise the Main-Danube canal, an engineering marvel stretching 106 miles from Bamberg on the Main River to Kelheim on the Danube. Begun as Charlemagne's dream in 793, it was completed in 1992 with 16 locks that raise the water level 1,332 feet. Today it enables river travel from the North Sea to the Black Sea. Arrive during lunch in Nuremberg, Bavaria's second largest city. Your afternoon tour features the former Nazi parade grounds and the Palace of Justice, historic home of the Nuremberg Trials; or, join an optional World War II history tour visiting the Documentation Centre Museum. You have a brief stop at the Court House before returning to the Old Town area enclosed by ancient city walls. Your tour ends with a walk from the imperial castle grounds past the Albrecht Durer House on your way to the Main Market Square with its elaborate Gothic fountain. You have the rest of the day to explore; your ship remains docked overnight. (B, L, D)
Day 11 - Nuremberg After breakfast, disembark and proceed to the airport for your return flight. * Or, extend your journey in another country with three nights in Prague, Czech Republic. You will stay close to Prague's Old Town and will get a tour of the landmark Prague Castle. (B)

Melk
Empress Maria Theresa said of Melk, "If I had never come here, I would have regretted it."
