A charming market town and busy ferry port, Kalundborg is now Denmark’s newest cruise port, too. In the same Zealand region as the capital Copenhagen, Kalundborg also enjoys the driest and sunniest climate in Denmark.

The town has a long history going right back to the days when Vikings used its natural harbour to set off on their expeditions. But it came to the fore in medieval times when, choosing it as a military strongpoint, the Danish kings and other leaders assembled in the Castle of Kalundborg for their political debates. Although the 14th century castle was pulled down in the 17th century, there are still a number of medieval buildings in the old part of town (High Town).

The nearby peninsulas of Rosnaes, Asnaes and Gisselore are places of great natural beauty enhanced by several preservation areas.
