Itinerary

17 Sep Halifax
Embark Quest for Adventure and depart at 2300.

19 Sep Saint Pierre et Miquelon
Arrive 0800, depart 1600.

Saint-Pierre et Miqhelon are a group of small French islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. The two main islands, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, are territories of France and were claimed by the French in the early 17th century. These two islands are the last remnants of the country's possessions on this continent.

Today, both of the main islands are modern but quaint French settlements, with the official language being French. Both enjoy a mild climate, so landscapes are green and particularly picturesque during the summer months. The islands are both fairly small, so you can get around to most places on foot. However, guests must be aware that the town of Saint-Pierre has a lot of sloping streets, which may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties. Scenic walks can be taken along the seafront if you want to discover the islands' beauty. If you're more interested in the history of these French islands, you can visit various museums. Saint-Pierre is home to Musée Héritage, which has many religious and medical artefacts from the 19th and 20th centuries. Or in Miquelon, take a look around the Musée de Miquelon, which offers a unique insight into the heritage of this island.

The official currency of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon is the euro, and you'll find a handful of restaurants, bars and shops on both. The local cuisine is mainly French, with a particular preference to seafood.

20 Sep Cap-aux-Meules, Magdalen Islands
Arrive 1000, depart 1600.

Cap-aux-Meules is part of Quebec's Magdalen Islands and is an unincorporated Canadian community. The Magdalen Islands (Iles de la Madeleine) enjoy stunning sand dunes and red sandstone cliffs, which form dramatic backdrops.

The port of Cap-aux-Meules is an important fishing harbour, as well as serving commercial cargo and ferries. The last 50 years have seen businesses expand, along with the arrival of restaurants and bars. The island has a mainly village-like appearance, so you'll get to experience unique, traditional culture if you want to venture further in.

21 Sep Havre-Saint-Pierre, Quebec
Arrive 1300, depart 1900.

Havre-Saint-Pierre is situated on Quebec's north shore and is the largest town and seat of the Minganie RCM. The first inhabitants came from the Magdalen Islands in the 19th century, and therefore the local dialect is more closely related to Adadian French rather than Quebec French.

Havre-Saint-Pierre is known for its excellent fishing and catches mainly comprise snow crab, scallops and lobster. The town is near to the Mingan Archipelago National Park, one of its key tourist attractions, which is admired for its natural beauty. It has a unique variety of flora and fauna, which include puffins and rare Mingan Thistle.

22 Sep Sept-Îles, Québec
Arrive 0800, depart 1800.

24 Sep Montreal, Quebec
Arrive 0800, depart 2300.

The world’s largest inland port and the second largest city in Canada, cosmopolitan Montreal is a city renowned for its charming, relaxed atmosphere and contrasting French and British influences. Founded by the French in 1642, it was not until the mid-18th century that the British controversially entered the city.

However, today Montreal remains one of the world’s largest French-speaking cities with a population of over three million, while the British influence is evident in much of the old town’s architecture. The cultural heart of the city is awash with museums, theatres and galleries, while throughout the city there are a number of areas of natural beauty including the St Lawrence River and the nearby Laurentian Mountains.

25 Sep Trois-Rivières, Quebec
Arrive 0800, depart 2000.

Trois-Rivières is a city in the Mauricie region of Quebec and, in 2009, was named the Cultural Capital of Canada. The Port of Trois-Rivières dates back as far as 1535 where it was first used for fur trading. Today, it's used mainly for commercial purposes, as well as being a popular stop off for cruise ships.

Away from the port, Trois-Rivières has a lot to offer tourists. Some of its attractions include art galleries, theatres, scenic walks, museums and historical sites. However, if you want to spend the day at a relaxed pace, you'll find an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants within easy reach of the port.

26 Sep Quebec City, Quebec
Arrive 0800, depart 2000.

Set on Cap Diamant overlooking the St Lawrence River, Quebec City is the hub of French America, a cosmopolitan destination rich in culture, heritage and atmosphere. First settled by the French in 1608 and later acrimoniously ceded to the British, the old town recalls the city’s intriguing and turbulent past. Historic architecture, museums, churches and battlefields are all located in the vicinity and offer a glimpse into the 17th and 18th centuries.

Today, the city has a lively ambience, welcoming and hospitable people, café culture and many modern amenities.

27 Sep Saguenay, Quebec
Arrive 1200, depart 1800.

Described as an 'isolated oasis' in the remote wilderness of northern Quebec, Saguenay is a city in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Canada. From the busy port extends the St. Lawrence, a river which winds through fjords that offer breathtaking views of rocky walls.

If you want to do more than admire the stunning scenery, the area has countless attractions which can provide hours of entertainment. Some of these include a number of museums and historical sites, trails, boat tours and art galleries. If you just want to take it easy, sit down in one of the many bars or restaurants and watch the world pass by.

28 Sep Baie-Commeau, Quebec
Arrive 0800, depart 1600.

Baie-Commeau is a town to the north east of Quebec City and is on the shores of the beautiful Saint Lawrence River. Beyond its port lie deep, lush forests, which make a particularly striking backdrop. It's also home to marine mammals and wild ducks, which give it a truly natural feel. Perhaps venture along the Amédée River Trail which allows you to see some of the areas spectacular scenes; or maybe visit on of the town's observation points which offer equally impressive views.

Away from the face of it all lies a rich cultural and religious heritage, and this is apparent from the stunning historical architecture. You can explore its history by visiting the many exhibitions, museums, theatres and churches which are scattered across the town.

29 Sep Gaspé, Quebec
Arrive 0800, depart 2000.

Gaspé is a seaside village on the tip of the beautiful Gaspé Peninsula. During the summer, Gaspé is extremely picturesque, with wild flowers and blooming meadows.

Gaspé is the business centre for the region, so you'll find shopping centres, bars, restaurants and a lively nightlife. If you want to explore further afield, Gaspé is also within travelling distance of Perce Rock, Forillon National Park and three world-class salmon fishing rivers. The archaeological remains of the historical and archaeological site of Pabos will explain New France Gaspesians fishermen's way of life. The interpretation centre has won many awards and integrates perfectly with the environment in the Bay of Grand Pabos.

01 Oct Halifax, Nova Scotia
Disembark Quest for Adventure.

A lively, vibrant city and the capital of Nova Scotia, Halifax is a city whose maritime heritage makes it a fascinating destination.

Featuring the world’s second largest natural harbour, which stretches for approximately ten miles, the city was integral in the rescue operation of the Titanic in 1912, and was again at the forefront of maritime disaster five years later with the Halifax Explosion. In addition to its history, Halifax has picturesque 18th and 19th-century architecture, a rugged coast and is surrounded by quaint fishing villages.

Gaspe

On the warmest summer day, wildflowers sway and hayfields ripple in the cool, brisk breeze that rises off the St. Lawrence Estuary. The easy warmth of sun-drenched meadows framed by the ever-present sea belie the harshness of wintry days when snow covers the ground and ice floes threaten ships making their way up the mighty river. Here, the ancient Appalachians, stretching over 1500 miles (2400 Km) from Northern Alabama across Eastern North America, reach their continental limit to plunge into the sea. It is easy to imagine that one has reached the end of the earth when sea-mists shroud these sculpted cliffs. The Mi'kmaq, who occupied this land when the first Europeans arrived, must have thought so too because they called it 'Gespeg' meaning 'the place where the land ends'.
