Itinerary

17 Oct UK-Havana, Cuba

Fly from Gatwick to Havana on a dedicated charter service. Embark Quest for Adventure and moor overnight in Havana. Founded in 1514 by Diego Velazquez, the city of Havana was moved twice before coming to occupy its present privileged site on Cuba’s northern coast. 40 years after its founding, it was declared the capital of Cuba. Its harbour became a mandatory way station and safe haven for pirates and corsairs, and for ships coming from the American continent on the way to Spain. This heavy traffic led to a flourishing trade, and in a few years Havana became the largest city in Cuba.

18 Oct Havana, Cuba

Full day.

Cuba’s vibrant capital, Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located on the island’s north coast and was built around a natural harbour. Its colonial architecture is a legacy of four centuries of Spanish rule: with its narrow, cobbled streets, spacious plazas and wrought-iron balconies, some have likened the city to Seville.

Havana’s sights include the Plaza de Armas, dominated by the magnificent Palace of the Captains-General, which houses the City Museum. Another must-see is the well-preserved Cathedral Square, with the 18th-century Baroque cathedral on its north side.

To see a more modern side of Havana, you can visit the Museum of the Revolution, in the 1950s dictator Batista’s former palace.

Please nWe regret that Havana excursions on 23rd February are not available to passengers embarking or disembarking the cruise. There are exchange offices in the cruise terminal where you can obtain local currency, CUC (Cuban convertible pesos). The exchange rate for US dollars is not competitive: Bank of England notes or euros are recommended. All purchases in Cuba must be made in local currency. Credit and debit cards issued by US-based companies (such as American Express) cannot be used."

20 Oct Progreso, Mexico

Full day.

Progreso is a port city in the Mexican state of Yucatán. It enjoys well-kept beaches that stretch for miles and a coastline full of bars and restaurants, which make Progreso the perfect destination for a relaxed day on the beach. If you head to the east of the resort, you can visit Laguna Rosada, a great place to spot flamingos.

22 Oct Veracruz, Mexico

Full day.

Veracruz is Mexico’s oldest and largest port; and the one most connected with Mexico's history. Veracruz has a rich culture and is particularly famous for its carnival, which is its most important event of the year. This historical place has a number of significant historical buildings which are worth a visit, including El Faro (a lighthouse), el Baluarte de Santiago and San Juan de Ulua Fort; a museum of the port's history. Veracruz's stunning beaches are steeped with coral reefs, a wide variety of tropical fish and other marine species which can be seen while scuba diving.

24 Oct Cozumel, Mexico

Afternoon.

Cozumel is an island in the Caribbean Sea, off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Until 1961, Cozumel was a sleepy fishing community. But, because of its beautiful scuba diving areas, it has now become one of the best places in the world for this activity. Cozumel is now an underwater marine park, to protect its beautiful coral reefs and rich tropical sealife. During your time here, you could take part in the latter, or perhaps visit the Cozumel Museum or the fun-filled Chankanaab.

25 Oct Belize City, Belize

Full day. Land by launch or tender.

Belize City is the largest city in the Central American nation of Belize. Formerly known as British Honduras, Belize was one of the last colonies to gain independence from Great Britain in 1981. This stunning area enjoys lush tropical rainforests with hundreds of exotic plant species and animals; as well as fabulous scuba diving areas - a recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of Belize's finest attractions include the beautiful Hidden Valley Falls, the Five Sisters Falls, Glovers Reef or swimming with whale sharks off Gladden Spit. Whatever you choose to do in Belize, nature will always be at the heart. Belize City features a Tropical Climate, with warm and humid conditions throughout the course of the year. Belize City's culture is considered similar to that of other Caribbean capital cities. Always busy in the daytime, there is the hustle and bustle one would associate with a city of 70,000. Notable cultural events include Garifuna Settlement Day (November 19), Belize City Carnival (September), Baron Bliss Day (March 9).

26 Oct Santo Tomas, Guatemala

Full day.

Santo Tomás is a port city in the Izabal Department, Guatemala. The most fascinating part about Santo Tomás is its Mayan culture - a civilisation which dates back as far as 250 AD. During your time in Santo Tomás, you may like to visit some of its nearby attractions, including Rio Dulce, Lake Izabel, the towns of Puerto Barrios, Livingston and San Felipe Castle. The Mayan ruins of Quirigua provide an interesting insight into the history of this ancient city.

27 Oct Puerto Cortes, Honduras

Full day.

Puerto Cortés is Honduras' main seaport. In Puerto Cortés, you will never run out of things to do. An interesting nearby attraction is the 18th-century Fort of San Fernando in the village of Omoa, captured by the British from the Spanish during a battle in 1779. For something a little more peaceful, Puerto Cortés' charming countryside makes an ideal destination. Puerto Cortés is a delightful tourist haven and is a great stop-off for those who desire a piece of warm Caribbean sun and hospitality.

28 Oct Roatan, Honduras

Full day.

The Caribbean island of Roatan in Honduras offers some of the world's best scuba diving; assuring you some of the most stunning beaches you'll ever see. Roatan is surrounded a coral reef which provides tranquil beaches for swimming and snorkelling. Because of its rich coral reef, there are many varieties of sea life, some particularly rare. In land, you may like to visit the Roatan Butterfly Garden or the Carambola Gardens; or perhaps do a jungle canopy tour to see this area's true natural beauty.

30 Oct Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

Afternoon and overnight mooring.

The ancient history of this stunning country is shrouded in mystery. The first recorded event was the arrival of Christopher Columbus, who stayed in the area surrounding Puerto Limon for 17 days in 1502. He was so impressed by the gold jewellery worn by the natives that he named the area ‘Costa Rica’ or the ‘rich coast’. However, the gold he hoped for was never discovered in great quantities. Puerto Limon was founded in 1870 as a port for exporting bananas and grains. Today it is one of the leading ports in the country exporting coffee, cocoa and coconuts. Local attractions include Vargas Park and the downtown market offering everything from exotic fruits and vegetables to antiques and curios.
