Ports

Shanghai

For the past 15 years Shanghai has reawakened and regained its former glory as “The Paris of the East” in the 1920s and 30s. Its new skyscrapers seem to go up almost overnight, especially in the Pudong District, Shanghai's commericial center. And the air's electric with a sense of confidence and purpose.

Even the best museum, the Shanghai Museum, is but a decade old and already owns a collection of bronze that may well be the finest in the world. Still, there are a few more ancient sites worth your attention such as the pastoral, 16th century Yu Garden, an extraordinary maze of Ming Dynasty pavilions and bridges, encircled by an udulating dragon wall.

Ishigaki

Ishigaki functions as the business and transport center of the archipelago. Ishigaki Airport is the largest airport in the Yaeyamas and Japan's largest third-class airport. Ishigaki Island, like the rest of Okinawa, takes cultural influences from both Japan and China due to its location between China and mainland Japan.

Iriomote Island and Ishigaki Island

Iriomote Island and Ishigaki Island, Japan

Both islands are located in the Yaeyama Island group. The largest, Iriomote Island is famed for the Iriomote Cat, an endangered nocturnal wildcat found only on Iriomote and considered by some to be its own species. There are estimated to be only about 100 Iriomote cats left in the wild. Ishigaki Island is the second-largest island of the group and the city functions as the business and transport center of the archipelago.

Our innovative expeditions are year-round and vary with the seasons:

- Spring (October, November) and Autumn (March, April) in remote and unspoilt parts of the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef, Torres Strait Islands and Papua New Guinea
- Summer (December, January and February) in the Tasman Sea, Tasmania and Antarctica.

We would be delighted to have you join us on a voyage to some of the most wonderful but rarely seen places on earth.
