Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Prague
On arrival in Prague today be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Later, enjoy a Welcome Reception.

Day 2 - Prague Sightseeing
This morning, tour Prague. Then enjoy a private tour of Municipal House, a jewel of the city's Old Town. Opened in 1911, it is Prague's premier Art Nouveau building. After you visit, indulge in a traditional  Czech afternoon tea of coffee and cake. Tonight, enjoy a delicious Welcome Dinner at the Art Nouveau Cafe and Restaurant Imperial, famous for its original ceramic wall tiling, mosaic ceiling, unsurpassed cuisine and cosmopolitan ambience.

Day 3 - Prague, Dresden
This morning your journey takes you into Germany and on to the beautiful Dresden Elbe Valley. In Dresden itself, a guided tour will take you to the Castle of the Electors of Saxony including the Saxon Wall, the Semper Opera House and the Frauenkirche, Church of Our Lady, reconstructed after its destruction in World War II.

Day 4 - Dresden, Potsdam, Berlin
This morning, travel to Berlin via Potsdam, once the residence of Prussian kings. Enjoy a private tour of the palaces of Sanssouci, the largest World Heritage listed site in Germany set in beautiful park lands. This evening, choose your dining experience. Dine in your Westin hotel, or venture out to a local restaurant.

Day 5 - Berlin Sightseeing
After breakfast this morning, your sightseeing begins with a trip up to the visitor platform of Fernsehturm Berlin, the city's famous television tower and the fourth tallest freestanding structure in Europe. At 204 metres high, the views of Berlin from this platform are quite spectacular. Afterwards, a guided tour of Berlin takes in the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin State Opera House and Alexanderplatz, the large open square and public transport hub in Berlin's centre. You will also see some of the ruins of the Berlin Wall, the rise and fall of which played a role in shaping Germany.

Day 6 - Berlin
Continue to explore the highlight attractions of Berlin today with a range of touring activities. Take a bicycle tour along the Berlin Wall, cruise the Spree River, or visit Museum Island, a World Heritage listed complex of internationally renowned museums and galleries.

Day 7 - Berlin, Warsaw
In Berlin this morning, visit Checkpoint Charlie, the former crossing point between East and West Germany, as well as The Checkpoint Charlie Museum. Then, board a train bound for the Polish capital, Warsaw and on arrival, check in to your hotel before a special dinner at Folk Gospoda. This traditional Polish Inn offers classic cuisine alongside folk music.

Day 8 - Warsaw Sightseeing
Warsaw is an extraordinary city in which buildings, palaces, churches and architectural complexes, destroyed during World War II, have been reconstructed with great care. On a tour here, you'll gain a glimpse into the effect that the war had on the city and it's people. Visit the site of the Jewish Ghetto and the Palace of Culture and Science before visiting Lazienki Park, where you'll see Lazienki Palace, set on an artifical island of Lazienki Lake. Then, take an excursion to the 17th century Wilanow Palace, a spectacular second home to many Polish kings over time and one of Poland's most important cultural monuments. Later, enjoy a musical celebration of locally born composer Frederic Chopin during a concert performance of his work.

Day 9 - Warsaw, Czestochowa, Krakow
This morning, travel to the city of Krakow, the seat of Polish kings for five centuries. On the way, stop off at Czestochowa. Visit Jasna Gora Monastery to see the Black Madonna, a holy icon of the Virgin Mary and Poland's holiest relic as well as one of the country's national symbols. Then travel to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum for a tour revealing the tragic history of the concentration camp.

Day 10 - Krakow Sightseeing
Explore Krakow with a choice of sightseeing activities. Take a walking tour, see the attractions by bicycle, or visit Oskar Schindler's Factory Museum to uncover one of the most fascinating stories of the war. This afternoon, visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine, which began operating in the 13th century and only stopped in 2007. At this World Heritage listed site, see statues and even an intricate chapel carved from salt.

Day 11 - Budapest
Travel to Budapest, where you board your river ship and begin your cruise.

Day 12 - Budapest
Enjoy a tour of Budapest then visit the Hungarian State Opera House for an exclusive tour, a private recital and a glass of champagne. Back on board, enjoy a special Captain's Gala Welcome Dinner tonight.

Day 13 - Vienna
Arrive in Vienna this morning and enjoy a walking tour of the historic city, founded in 500 BC. Famed for striking architecture, classical musical and vibrant cafe culture, Vienna is a truly delightful place to explore, packed with historical and cultural landmarks. A wide variety of architectural masterpieces can be seen here, including examples of Baroque and Romanesque design, representing many centuries of development. Museums, galleries, opera houses and theatres abound. After your tour, enjoy refreshments of coffee and traditional chocolate cake, or 'sachertorte'. Tonight, your dining options include dinner on board your river ship, followed by a Mozart and Strauss concert at Hofburg Palace, and a tour of the famous sights of the Ringstrasse; a meal of schnitzel in an ambient Austrian beer garden, or a dining experience in a traditional 'Heuriger' wine inn.

Day 14 - Vienna
Enjoy your second day in Vienna today with our Freedom of Choice touring options. You may choose to visit the Imperial Treasury to see the Hofburg Crown Jewels, a 1,000 year old collection of treasures. Perhaps tour the impressive art collection on display at the Fine Arts Museum, or visit Schonbrunn Palace for a tour including the gardens and Carriage Museum. An excursion to historic Bratislava for a revealing tour of Communist landmarks is a fourth option.

Day 15 - Durnstein, Melk
Stop in Durnstein and choose from a walking tour and a wine tasting before cruising to Melk, or enjoy a guided bike ride to Melk. Both groups then take a tour of historic Melk Abbey, a famous monastic site.

Day 16 - Linz, Passau
In Linz today, choose from a day tour to Salzburg, where you'll discover the key sites of the 'Sound of Music' film, or a trip to the small historic city of Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. Alternatively, you may like to stay on board, enjoying an apple strudel cooking demonstation as you cruise to Passau for a guided city tour.

Day 17 - Regensburg
Today you'll arrive in Regensburg, located at the confluence of the Regen and Danube rivers and one of Germany's best preserved medieval cities. Your options include a tour of the city, during which you'll see the beautiful Old Town and the Porta Pretoria, gates to a Roman fort built in 179AD. You could also visit the Audi Museum and Factory, or take a guided bicycle tour to the impressive temple of Walhalla, which pays homage to Germans of distinction.

Day 18 - Nuremberg
This morning your ship will enter the Main-Danube Canal. Cruise through the Altmuhl Valley and dock in Nuremberg, where you will disembark and once again choose from different Freedom of Choice Touring activities. Perhaps take a medieval tour, visiting the 900 year old ramparts that surround the city, the Imperial Castle, Kaiserburg Fortress and more. Alternatively, enjoy a World War II tour, visiting a range of sites that played a pivotal role for the Nazi Party and the Allied army during World War II. This tour includes a visit to the historically significant Courtroom 600, site of the Nuremberg trials. The more adventurous may like to tour the sights of Nuremberg by Segway. 

Day 19 - Bamberg
Today, disembark just outside Bamberg and travel by coach into this World Heritage listed city. Take a fascinating guided sightseeing tour and visit a Bamberg Beer Haus to enjoy a local brew compliments of APT. Afterwards, continue your cruise, now along the Main River.

Day 20 - Kitzingen, Wurzburg
This morning, enjoy a special wine tasting event in one of Germany's oldest wine cellars (Alter Klosterkeller). Later, arrive in Wurzburg and choose between a walking tour and visit to the Wurzburg Residential Palace, or an excursion to Rothenburg, a beautiful walled town, situated on the Romantic Road, overlooking the Tauber River. Back on board this evening, enjoy a special medieval themed dinner.

Day 21 - Wertheim, Freudenberg
See an amazing glass blowing demonstration on board this morning before disembarking in Wertheim. Here, see the sights on foot or by bicycle, or go for a paddle along the Tauber River in a canoe or kayak. This afternoon, visit medieval Wertheim Castle for a private tour, and enjoy a glass of Sekt, a sparkling German wine, while absorbing stunning views over the Main River.

Day 22 - Rudesheim
This morning arrive in Rudesheim. Disembark your ship and choose from three touring activities. Board the Winzerexpress mini train, which will take you to Siegfried's Mechanical Instrumental Museum for a tour. Alternatively, you may like to head to a Rhine Valley winery for a tasting. Afterwards, reboard your ship and prepare yourself for the cruise along the most beautiful stretch of the river, through the World Heritage listed Rhine Gorge. Head up to the Sun Deck to take in views of the slopes covered in vineyards and dotted with ancient castles. Cruise past the villages of St Goarshausen and Boppard, among others.

Day 23 - Cologne, Dusseldorf
Today cruise to Cologne and enjoy a tour of the ancient city, including the spectacular cathedral. This afternoon, choose from two excursions. Perhaps travel to Venlo and explore the spectacular displays on show at the 2012 Floriade Horticultural World Expo, with time to admire the impressive landscaped gardens and floral exhibitions. Alternatively, you may like to take a trip to the historic city of Maastricht, where you can explore the grand ancient architecture and boutique shops. Continue to Dusseldorf and rejoin your ship.

Day 24 - Amsterdam
Alight in Utrecht this morning and visit Rembrandt's Windmill for a photo before rejoining your ship. Arrive in Amsterdam and choose from several different activities. You might like to admire the city on a canal boat tour through its famous waterways; visit the Van Gogh Museum to explore the work of the world famous artist; or discover beautiful landscapes on a Wetlands Safari canoe tour. Tonight, join your fellow travellers for a special Farewell Dinner on board.

Day 25 - Amsterdam, Disembark Ship
After breakfast today, disembark your ship and transfer to the Airport.

Melk

Empress Maria Theresa said of Melk, "If I had never come here, I would have regretted it." The center of Melk is the Abbey and the Stiftskirche (the abbey church), some of the best examples of Baroque architecture anywhere in the world.
