Stroll its cobbled streets and quiet plazas, or head to Muelle Prat, a lively market. Just an hour inland is Santiago de Chile, founded in 1541 by the Conquistadors, and an impressive city of Spanish Colonial styles and old world, European architecture.

Santiago is the economic and cultural hub of the country, occupying a spectacular basin at the foot of the highest peaks of the Andes.
