Athena was originally built as a trans-atlantic ocean liner. In 1994 the vessel changed owernship and was virtually stripped to her hull and reconstructed and restored, for an amazing cost of USD150 million, as a beautiful, premium-rated contemporary cruise ship. With a handsome profile and a traditional walkaround promenade deck Athena is a small to medium-sized cruise ship by today's standards. She carries about 550 passengers and offers a wide selection of well-appointed public lounges and comfortable cabin accommodation spanning eight passenger decks, serviced by two lifts.
